Things To Do

Celebrations

Living in south Louisiana where food and fun are essential elements of our culture, Tchefuncta families know how to celebrate and have created many traditions through the years. There’s fireworks and a golf cart parade on the 4th of July, the fall “Break at the Lake” at Lake Emfred, a Mardi Gras golf cart parade, and so much more. Whether its birthday parties at the Pavilion, fundraisers for local charities, or a crawfish cookoff, there is so much to do and so many ways to make lasting friendships.

Wildlife & Natural Setting

For those who enjoy the outdoors and nature, the 900+ acres inside Tchefuncta include daily sightings of deer, fox squirrels, rabbits, and red and gray foxes, and other wildlife. For bird enthusiasts, Tchefuncta is home to bluebirds, owls, eagles, hawks, woodpeckers, herons, and more.

Walking, Jogging, and Biking

The neighborhood offers the perfect landscape for biking, jogging, and walking. With more than 10 miles of interior, private roads and a strictly enforced speed limit, many residents take full advantage of relaxing and getting their daily exercise. From the early hours of the morning to dusk, it is common to see families on bikes, people out walking their dogs, or cyclists getting in their miles.

Waterfront

Tchefuncta’s scenic Lake Emfred, with its abundance of mature cypress trees, pines, oaks, and sycamores, offers easy access to the Tchefuncta River, and yet it is a destination in and of itself. At the lake’s private park, residents enjoy picnic areas, a playground, two docks with seating, and a neighborhood boat launch. You will find many neighbors on the water in their canoes and kayaks.  For boat owners, Tchefuncta has its own marina near the Country Club with a fueling station and slips for both boats and jet skis. Fish are abundant in Lake Emfred, Tchefuncte River, and Lake Pontchartrain. All of which are easily accessable by boat. Many families also enjoy fishing along the banks of Lake Emfred and from the boat dock there.

Playgrounds

These safe and well constructed play areas at both the Pavilion and Lake Emfred provide a special place where kids can be kids. The playgrounds create a wonderful opportunity for Tchefuncta’s youngest residents to meet other children in the neighborhood and create new friendships. Parents also get to know other parents during these fun outings to the park and pavilion as they talk and watch their children go hand-over-hand on the monkey bars, swing, slide, and climb. Also at the Pavilion, there is a new baseball diamond with a backstop which has become a popular place for boys and girls to run, bat, and catch as teams take to the field. Having great spaces for kids to enjoy adds to the whole Tchefuncta experience for all residents. There is nothing like seeing children having fun outdoors.

The Tchefuncta Home and Garden Club

For generations, the Tchefuncta Home and Garden Club has helped ensure the beauty of the neighborhood and offered many unique and fun opportunities for neighbors to come together. From selecting and bestowing the highly coveted Garden of the Month award to the annual Christmas Decoration contest, this club adds to the joy of living in Tchefuncta.

The group also provides its Little Libraries for sharing of books. Located near the Country Club and tennis courts, this opportunity always has excellent literature for its readers on a wide variety of topics including history.

Yule Yall Christmas Market is a favorite annual event which welcomes vendors, artists, and craftsmen to share their products and services with residents just in time for the holiday season and gift giving. Held at Tchefuncta Country Club, the event includes a wonderful holiday-themed luncheon.
